Ethicon Vicryl Sutures

Coated Polyglactin 910 — Synthetic Absorbable Braided Suture

The world's most prescribed synthetic absorbable suture, exported by NOVOSIC from the UAE to surgical procurement teams worldwide.

About Vicryl

The reference absorbable suture.

Vicryl is Ethicon's coated polyglactin 910 suture — a synthetic, braided, absorbable multifilament that has been the global reference standard for soft-tissue approximation since its introduction. Its predictable absorption profile — approximately seventy-five percent of original tensile strength retained at two weeks and complete absorption by about seventy days via hydrolysis — makes it suitable for procedures where temporary internal support is required and permanent suture material is not desired.

NOVOSIC supplies the complete Coated Vicryl range — and the specialty Vicryl Plus Antibacterial and Vicryl Rapide variants — for export from the UAE to surgical departments, distributors, and procurement offices worldwide. Every gauge from microsurgical 10-0 through heavy 5 is available, with the full Ethicon needle portfolio (taper point, cutting, reverse cutting, blunt point, controlled-release pop-off, and specialty needle geometries) against any reasonable order quantity.

Clinical applications

Where Vicryl is used.

Vicryl's combination of strong early tensile retention, predictable absorption, and the breadth of available gauge / needle combinations means it is specified across most surgical disciplines. The eight areas below cover the bulk of indications; the full clinical scope is broader.

General surgery

Subcuticular skin closure, abdominal wall closure, mesentery, soft-tissue approximation

Obstetrics & gynaecology

Episiotomy repair, uterine suturing, vaginal cuff closure, perineal repair

Orthopaedics

Tendon and capsular repair where temporary support suffices

Cardiovascular (paediatric)

Selected paediatric cardiac procedures, vascular anastomoses in specific gauges

Ophthalmic

Conjunctival closure with 8-0 to 10-0 gauges

Plastic & reconstructive

Deep dermal layer closure where absorbable support is preferred

Paediatric

Subcutaneous closure where suture removal is impractical

Urology & gastrointestinal

Anastomotic suturing in selected indications

Featured Vicryl products

Eight Vicryl families available for export.

Each can be quoted in any combination of gauge, needle, and pack size. Tell us your specification list and required quantities — we consolidate across the Vicryl range (and across other Ethicon sutures) into a single export shipment.

Coated Vicryl Suture

Polyglactin 910 with polyglactin 370 / calcium stearate coating

The standard Coated Vicryl suture. Predictable hydrolytic absorption, smooth knot run-down, and the broadest gauge and needle inventory in the family. The default choice when surgeons specify Vicryl without further qualification.

Gauges
10-0 through 5
Needle options
Taper point, taper cut, cutting (CP), reverse cutting (RC, FS), blunt point, controlled-release (pop-off), and various specialty needles

Vicryl Plus Antibacterial Suture

Coated Vicryl with triclosan

Coated Vicryl with the addition of triclosan, an antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial colonisation of the suture material itself. Clinical evidence supports a reduction in surgical-site infection rates in select indications.

Gauges
4-0 through 1
Needle options
Taper point and reverse cutting needles, common gauges

Vicryl Rapide Suture

Polyglactin 910 (irradiated for accelerated absorption)

An irradiated Vicryl variant with an accelerated absorption profile. Tensile strength essentially absent by ten days; complete absorption around forty-two days. Common in episiotomy repair, pediatric closure, and skin/oral mucosal closure where minimal residual material is preferred.

Gauges
5-0 through 0
Needle options
Taper point, cutting, reverse cutting

Coated Vicryl Reel

Loose ligature on reel

Coated Vicryl supplied on a sterile reel without a pre-attached needle. Used in ophthalmic and microsurgical contexts where the surgeon attaches a custom needle, and in ligation procedures.

Gauges
5-0 through 1
Needle options
No pre-attached needle (free ligature)

Coated Vicryl with Controlled-Release Needle

Pop-off needle attachment

Standard Coated Vicryl with a controlled-release (pop-off) needle attachment that detaches with a controlled tug. Speeds up interrupted suturing where many short knots are placed.

Gauges
4-0 through 0
Needle options
Taper, cutting, reverse cutting variants — pop-off

Coated Vicryl Microsurgical Sizes

Coated Vicryl, fine gauges

The microsurgical gauge range of Coated Vicryl — used in ophthalmic surgery, plastic and reconstructive procedures, and specialised vascular work where minimal-trauma fine sutures are required.

Gauges
8-0, 9-0, 10-0
Needle options
Spatulated, taper, and reverse cutting micro-needles depending on indication

Coated Vicryl Heavy Gauges

Coated Vicryl, heavy gauges

The heavy gauge range — for abdominal wall closure, mass closure, orthopaedic capsular work, and other high-tension applications where strong absorbable approximation is required.

Gauges
0, 1, 2, 5
Needle options
Large taper and cutting needles, double-armed where useful
